In an era where technology is an integral part of our daily lives, its impact on health, especially among children, cannot be overlooked. Dr. Dhananjay Parab, Orthopaedic and Knee Transplant Surgeon at Zynova Shalby Hospital, warns of the detrimental effects of excessive computer and mobile phone usage on the young, particularly in causing joint pain.

According to studies, approximately 10 million people in India suffer annually from cervical spondylosis, a number that’s surging among the youth. Sedentary lifestyles, poor postures, and excessive gadget use are significant contributors to this increase.

As parents, it’s essential to be vigilant and proactive in mitigating these risks. Here are some practical steps to take:

  1. Monitor Screen Time: Set a limit on the number of hours your children spend on gadgets.
  2. Encourage Physical Activity: Ensure they engage in physical activities and sports, which helps in preventing joint stiffness and pain.
  3. Educate on Proper Posture: Teach them the importance of maintaining proper posture while using gadgets.
  4. Regular Check-ups: Schedule regular health check-ups to monitor their physical health.

Dr. Utkarsh Pawar, a Shoulder and Knee Surgeon, stresses the importance of regular exercise in preventing back, shoulder, and spine pain. He also recommends consulting a doctor immediately if the pain becomes unbearable.

While technology is a powerful tool for learning and entertainment, it’s vital to use it responsibly. Protecting our children’s physical health is paramount, and as parents, we must strike the right balance between technology and wellness.
